Gearing up for the release of a new, and as yet untitled album, Dundee’s finest have hit the road to play a four date tour to road test their new material.
Having headlined some big festivals and played to tens of thousands, this was a small, intimate venue, capacity 260. And boy was it intimate. It was like playing in your front room, and no room on stage to swing the proverbial cat. Loved the bird flocked wallpaper though, very Linda Barker.
Opening with the raucous Wasted Little DJs, Kyle looking the worst for wear, his mop of brown hair covering his eyes plundered through the sixteen track set, the majority being unheard of tracks which were warmly received by the boisterous crowd.
At small venues like this, it’s fraught with technical issues, guitarist Pete Reilly constantly asking for his Gibson to be turned up and Falconer not remembering what’s next on the list.
But this is what makes The View appealing, there’s no slick professionalism, just spontaneity, enthusiasm by the bucketful and four, well now five, lads with the desire to play good, honest indie tunes.
Highlights? Clowns received a good cheer & Tragic Magic had the crowd surfing brigade out in force.
Superstar Tradesman is the last on the list, then it’s all over, no encore, no Same Jeans, no Skag Trendy.
The crowd shuffle off into the downstairs bar or to battle the cold temperatures outside.
That’s it, night over, new material tested to a very positive Mancunian audience. There might not be too many surprises when the album is released, but it’s going to keep fans ticking over nicely as we get another injection of their enjoyably raucous, catchy indie-rock into our lives.
